unfinished bamboo
Ideal for those seeking a custom colored floor, unfinished bamboo comes in both a horizontal and a vertical grain. Bamboo's understated grain makes it ideal for bolder, cleaner, looks.
More about natural and carbonized finishes: Carbonized bamboo is not stained, rather it is steamed, or heat-treated. When it is steamed, a chemical process occurs whereby the sugar in the bamboo is carmelized and turns it brown and that's why it is darker than natural bamboo. This can also be called a fumed finish. (Click on the small thumbnails below to see examples of carbonized and natural finishes.)
More about horizonal and vertical grain: A natural bamboo stock is hollow and the walls of the plant are fairly thin. Strips of bamboo are placed together to make our engineered flooring. In the horizontal style, the strips are laid flat so the top surface shows the bamboo's natural growth rings. In the vertical style, the strips are turned on their sides and placed together in long, slender rows creating a different appearance. (Click on the small thumbnails below to see examples of these choices.)
